Google is the biggest search engine in the world. So, naturally, people focus on that one. But we got kicked out of a Facebook group we didn’t own then built a better one. In fact, we built 51 of them. We had a good idea what people were putting into the search bar on Facebook. And we get new sales leads every single day with them.

One time I mouthed off in a Facebook group to someone that was bashing our company for no reason. They kicked me out. Even though the group was so big that I could use other accounts to access it, I decided to build my own. I knew that eventually I could have as many members (10,000-ish). I also decided “why not do a lot of them?”
1.Look At Other Big Facebook Groups
Like I said, we were getting leads in another person’s Facebook group. Facebook groups can be pretty toxic, but we could message members every day and offer services that matched almost perfectly with their needs.
One thing I always noticed about this big Facebook group is that their name was kind of stupid. The thing that made it work seemed to be a couple of good keywords and an active community. So I looked at other Facebook groups to see which ones also had a lot of members and came up with some ideas on a Facebook group name.
2. Think About What People On Facebook Are Actually Looking For
When you look at other big Facebook groups, a lot of them are connecting people with other people that have what they want. Big Facebook groups right now are local “swap” groups and job search groups. Our target customer was looking for “jobs” in the form of “gigs.” So we built our first group around helping our target customer get gigs. Our group name reflected that.
It was solely for networking, and we use it to prey on leads. All 51 of them. The leads are happy to be preyed on, though, because we have great resources and don’t try to sell them. But more on that later.
3. Nurture Posts And Communications
Shortly after creating our Facebook group and its 50 sisters, we read about how Facebook was “vigging” their groups to help make it a better place to connect with each other. That’s their prime business, and you can be sure they’ll do extra to make a feature like this work.
So, if you’ll notice now, the Facebook groups you’ve joined will come up in your notifications more often now. Facebook has made it so their groups get more visibility, sort of like when Facebook organic was huge and free. When you interact with Facebook group posts, it even shows your friends that might be interested that you did it. To try and grow groups.
If you are active in your Facebook groups then you’ll get more visibility. When you get more visibility you grow. When your community grows you get more leads. And more leads turn into more sales.
4. Use Members As Leads
We have it so our Facebook groups require approval, and the requesting member go through a simple set of questions that outline the purpose of the group while “subtly” plugging our companies.

Since we get a notification every time someone requests to join a group, we can go through one-by-one and approve their request to join. But before that, we add them as a friend on a personal Facebook account and message them once they accept the friend request.
You want to wait for them to accept the request before messaging them since “unsolicited” and unfriended private messages go to a sub folder called “message requests” that most people have difficulty discovering. But once they accept your friend request your next message will go directly to their primary message inbox where they’ll see it.
5. Provide Good Stuff To The Leads
You don’t want to “sell” to these leads. Just continue helping them like your Facebook group was doing.
We provide useful resources for the same stuff they were looking for when they found our Facebook groups. It happens to be on our website, so they’re free to look around when they get there.
Even though we don’t sell, we use the private message as an opportunity to “mention” that we work at the company. We say something like “We work at COMPANY so we do this every day and have access to a lot of resources. Just let us know.”
Now we know that if they lead is asking for more information that they are a pretty “warm” lead. This lets us focus on these leads more than other ones that might not be too excited yet. For example, you could message every single new Facebook Page or Ad “like” if you wanted, but they might just want to stay tuned and not be ready to buy yet.
Actively seeking customers that are asking more about what you do are looking to open their wallet. Treat them well. Help them. Let them go. Let them come back. Let them refer their friends and colleagues.
It would be really cool if you were curious about the “51” Facebook groups rather than just one. Because I’m about to tell you “why” that many.
So, the first group was an all-encompassing group to compete with the one we lost membership to. But our customer base was very “geographically motivated,” so creating a similar group with similar/good intent-based keywords for every one of the 50 United States we served was also a decent idea. We did it, and we get a lot of leads from all 51 groups. Every day.
